If you want to enhance your sewing skills, learn something new, meet like minded people or just come away and sew in a beautiful, calm and stress free French location then this is the retreat for you.
WHO IS THIS RETREAT FOR?
We aim to offer something for everyone regardless of your ability. We don't see it as an issue if you are a complete beginner and relish the challenge of teaching and guiding you through creating your first piece.
On the other hand we also love meeting talented and enthusiastic sewers and creators that wish to come and sew with like minded people.
I am a complete beginner
Join our retreat and by the end of the week you will have made at least one item and know your way around your sewing machine. I aim to give you a solid foundation and knowledge of sewing and your machine during this week.
I have some experience
Perfect a technique or simply get into the nitty gritty of a task, working alongside other seamstresses getting invaluable tips and knowledge. Bring along a specific item to work on or simply work on our suggested projects.
I've been sewing for years!
Join in and have fun with the rest of the team, even passing on your own knowledge if you feel comfortable. I'm confident there is always something new to learn and you will love relaxing and sewing in this calm environment.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE RETREAT
You don't need to bring anything, we have it all covered. You will have access to a personal sewing machine assigned to your for the whole week, and we also have 3 overlockers if required. You will also have access to threads, materials, sewing equipment such as scissors, rulers, markers, pins and all the other sewing tools you would need to start sewing.
If you do want to bring any of your own equipment your are always very welcome to. We believe anything that makes you feel more comfortable in your natural sewing environment is a great asset.
If you want to work on a specific commercial pattern please bring this along. You can work individually on this or as a group if desired.
Sewing Technique and Challenges
If there is a specific difficult area of your sewing that you want to tackle then please also let us know. We cover everything from getting to know your machine, reading a pattern, cutting and garment construction at your pace. We also cover techniques such as zips, cuffs and collars as well as learning about thread, tensions and how to set up your machine correctly.
CHOOSE A SEWING KIT
For those of you who are keen to join the sewing retreat but have no idea where to start, Kate has put together three kit ideas, that you can choose:
A cute little vintage style pinny with pockets (see top of the page)
A ladies simple kimono Jacket
A little girls reversible pinafore dress (as shown)
Depending on what you choose she will help you ‘read the pattern’ pieces and decipher the layout sheet, then you can cut the item out yourselves. If you would like a kit please let Kate know which one and in which size.
If you are unsure what kit to choose or simply want to bring a piece of your own to work on then talk to Kate and she will gladly help you decide what is best for you. When filling in the form below please give as much information as possible so Kate can plan ahead for the week.
You will be staying in our beautiful gite, Maison D'Hibou and sewing in here. You can relax in your own environment making the most of the gite. You will be fully catered for so no need to shop for anything. The aim is for you to get the most out of your retreat, so the sewing area is pretty much always open for you to create and you will only be joined by other sewists on your retreat.

"I have been running Sew Many Pretty Things for a few years now from my home in the UK but have moved it to our house in France.
The emphasis here is to enjoy a week in the company of fellow sewists and it is not too structured. Having said that I am always happy to go that extra mile if there is something specific you want to tackle. This is your holiday/retreat and I want to make it as enjoyable as I possibly can."
