Maison D’Hibou is our adorable gite - a converted barn adjoining the main house (Chez Dauve) set in 2 acres of meadow gardens and an orchard among the vineyards of the Petite Champagne region of the Charente. Down a quiet country lane away from traffic, the gite retains all the original oak beams and traditional "pierre apparent" stonework unique to this region of France.

You will sleep in the gite in one of the 4 pretty bedrooms………or sometimes we use the extra bedrooms in the main house……

Our beautiful house, gite and grounds here in the beautiful Charente
We converted the old barn into a spacious four-bedroom gîte and, with its wonderful open-plan layout, soon realised it would be the perfect place to host sewing holidays. Our first sewing retreat took place in 2022.
The entire downstairs is open plan, creating a bright, sociable space with plenty of room for sewing, relaxing and spending time together. There is also a handy refreshments area to one side, so tea, coffee and snacks are always close at hand.
Large patio doors open directly onto the extensive gardens, with beautiful views across the surrounding vineyards and fields of sunflowers. At the rear of the sitting room, another set of double doors leads onto a private covered terrace with comfortable seating.
The terrace leads into the secluded garden and heated outdoor swimming pool. The whole area is wonderfully private and not overlooked, with plenty of sun loungers for relaxing by the pool. Towels, pool towels and bed linen are all provided and changed weekly.
Whichever way you look, the gîte is surrounded by the countryside that makes this part of France so special — vineyards, open fields and, in summer, glorious displays of sunflowers.
The gîte sits within the grounds of the main house, Chez Dauve, offering guests their own peaceful and private space while still being part of the wider property.
